Key Event Description
B-cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) is a key anti-apoptotic protein localized primarily to the outer mitochondrial membrane. It functions by inhibiting the mitochondrial (intrinsic) apoptosis pathway, preventing the release of cytochrome c and other pro-apoptotic factors into the cytosol.
Bcl-2 achieves this by maintaining mitochondrial membrane integrity and inhibiting pro-apoptotic members of the Bcl-2 family (e.g., Bax, Bak).
How It Is Measured or Detected
- measured by Western Blot
